The graffiti artwork tells the story of freedom in a colourful and lively way. Abstract shapes, flowers, people and animals in many different forms and colours symbolise growth, diversity and the right to be yourself. Nature, people and symbolism flow into one another and strengthen each other. The artwork invites you to pause for a moment, to reflect on what freedom means to you and to dare to dream without boundaries.
The artwork is part of 80 Years of Freedom, a theme that is central in Amstelveen this year. The municipality asked residents of Amstelveen, including visitors of the market, the Children’s Council and the lhbti plus focus group, what freedom means to them. The stories and ideas that emerged formed the basis for Tim’s design. “What I find special is that people will soon be able to see their own input reflected in the artwork. There is something recognisable in it for everyone,” Tim explains.
‘Every part of the artwork could be highlighted on its own, and it would still make a striking piece. Passersby will keep discovering new details. It remains interesting, even if you walk past it every day. That was very important to me.’ (Translated from Dutch)
