Richard Price

Museum JAN in Amstelveen marks its 35th anniversary with Vloeibaar meesterschap, a retrospective exhibition of glass artist Richard Price. It spans his blown and cast glass, from early pieces to recent work. Alongside highlights from the museum's own collection, you'll see works from private collections that have never been on public display.

Born in the UK in 1960, Price graduated from the glass department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in the late 1980s. He went on to work with Andries Copier, Dale Chihuly and Lino Tagliapietra, and spent many years at the Tetterode glassworks. He is regarded as one of the finest glassblowers in the Netherlands.

His work combines free-flowing blown glass with solid cast glass. Fish, horses, birds, babies and children are recurring themes. Thailand, where he has spent several months a year working in his own studio since 1990, is another strong influence, visible in colourful ornaments inspired by traditional Thai headdresses and clothing, and in his affinity with Buddhism.

Museum JAN, formerly Museum Jan van der Togt, has focused on glass art since 1991 and has collected Price's work from the very start of his career. This exhibition celebrates both.
