History
Before the land reclamation, this area contained the Legmeer ponds. These ponds were created by the large-scale peat extraction that took place in the area for a long time. Because these ponds posed a threat to the surrounding buildings, they were drained in the 1870s.

History

The Haarlemmermeer railway lines were subsequently constructed in this area. Trains operated by the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg Maatschappij (HIJSM) and the NS (Dutch Railways) operated here. You'll occasionally encounter a station building during the walk.
Practical Information
- Route markings: yellow-red-yellow stripes, signposted counterclockwise.
- Hiking boots essential: uneven, muddy railway embankment and polder road.
- Dogs are prohibited on unpaved sections of the railway embankment.
Dogs must be kept on a leash elsewhere.
The Polderspoorpad is a Glas & Land route. Glas & Land is the name of a collaborative project between the municipalities of Aalsmeer, Amstelveen, Uithoorn, and Haarlemmermeer. Various projects are underway to improve sustainability, livability, and the economy in the area.
