Ainu Embroidery Workshop
Discover the unique patterns of the Ainu—a rich tradition passed down through generations. Under the guidance of artisans Nomoto Keiko and Okada Minako, you’ll learn the basics of Ainu designs and embroidery techniques.
During the workshop, you’ll embroider two pieces of fabric with traditional Ainu patterns. One you’ll take home; the other will travel to Shiraoi, Hokkaido (Japan) to become part of a large patchwork project. This collaborative artwork will be exhibited there as a symbol of multicultural coexistence.
