SAIL at Amstelzijde

On Monday, August 18, 2025, the Amstelzijde in Amstelveen will be transformed into a vibrant maritime hotspot. As part of Sail Amsterdam 2025, no fewer than 22 historic ships will dock along the Amstel. Between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, the nostalgic vessels will arrive, accompanied by a delegation from the municipalities of Ouder-Amstel and Amstelveen. Following a short speech, Amstelveen alderman Floor Gordon will officially open the event with a symbolic gesture.

Authentic nautical atmosphere and live music
For this special occasion, the Amstelzijde will take on a true sailor’s charm, complete with blue-and-white flags and maritime-themed decorations. The festive atmosphere will be enhanced by live performances from a traditional sailor’s choir and a lively jazz band.

Culinary treats and children’s activities
Visitors can indulge in classic Dutch delicacies such as fresh herring from the herring cart, traditionally smoked eel, and oysters. There will also be plenty of fun for kids, including face painting and a creative corner where they can make their own sailor hats.
