Hallway Exhibition: “Spe(e)lkaarten van De Tekenaars

In the De Tekenaars course by Coos van Dorsten, teens aged 13 to 18 explore their personal drawing style in an inspiring and educational environment. Traditional techniques such as anatomy, perspective, and line work are combined with space for imagination and creativity. Each lesson starts with a short explanation and inspirational examples, after which participants work independently or in small groups. Learning from each other is central.

For the December exhibition, the teens worked on a special project: designing a fully original card game. Three groups of four participants each chose a shared theme to connect their playing cards. The themes are:

• A cat-themed card game
• A multiverse card game, inspired by Marvel, Sonic, Pixar, and Pokémon
• A card game based on the elements of nature

Each participant designed one of the four suits—spades, clubs, diamonds, or hearts—and created thirteen hand-drawn cards. The result is a series of unique, artistic card games that beautifully showcase the talent, imagination, and diversity of these young creators.
