Tineke Coucke Exhibits Light and Interiors

From Sunday February 1 to Saturday February 29, 2026, Tineke Coucke presents her oil paintings titled Light and Interiors at KunstLokaal SAKB. The exhibition can be viewed in the corridor of the venue. The official opening takes place on Friday February 6 at 5:00 PM, and everyone is welcome.

The interplay between interior spaces and light is central to Coucke’s work. While painting, new ideas for subsequent works often emerge. She uses light to express a particular mood and atmosphere, with light determining her colour choices and the overall feeling of the painting. Although she has developed her own colour palette over the years, working from imagination gives her the freedom to experiment.

Many of the works include a connection to the outside world, often through a window or small gateway, reflecting the human desire to look outward and experience openness.

Coucke has been drawing since childhood and moved to Amsterdam in 1969, where she further developed her skills in etching and painting. From 1989 to 1994, she studied at the Wackers Academy. Artists such as Rembrandt, Paul Cézanne, Isaac Israëls and Hans Bayens are important sources of inspiration.

Today, Coucke still paints daily in her own studio and at KunstLokaal SAKB. She prefers working with oil paint on canvas or panel, but also creates watercolours. In addition, she etches weekly at the Open Studio for Graphic Techniques at KunstLokaal SAKB.
