Outdoor exhibition: Samen Onbeperkt Vooruit

Samen Onbeperkt Vooruit (Moving Forward Together, Without Limits) is an outdoor exhibition in Amstelveen in which 19 people with physical disabilities share, through words, images and sound, what it's like to live in a country that isn't always accessible. The touring photo exhibition marks the 75th anniversary of the Dutch charity de Zonnebloem and was created with the Open mind foundation, featuring photography by Linelle Deunk.

The stories go beyond narrow pavements, high thresholds and inaccessible toilets. They also show how it feels not to be seen as a full person because of other people's misunderstanding and lack of awareness. What unites everyone featured is a simple wish: to take part in society like anyone else.

Did you know that 77% of people with a physical disability regularly stay home even when they'd like to go out? Often because they can't be sure whether there's parking nearby, whether they can get inside, or whether there's an accessible toilet. Accessibility has been a legal right in the Netherlands since the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities took effect in 2016, but in practice there's still a long way to go.
