AmSo 50th anniversary concert

The Amstelveen Symphony Orchestra (AmSO) is turning 50 and celebrating with an anniversary concert at the Paaskerk in Amstelveen. The highlight is the world premiere of the Stannumfonie, written especially for the orchestra by composer Nico Hovius.

The title refers to stannum, Latin for tin, which is element number 50 in the periodic table. The new piece gives every instrument in the orchestra its moment.

Li Xie, Amstelveen's first-ever city pianist, joins as soloist. Born in Shanghai, she studied at the conservatories of Shanghai, Salzburg and Paris, and now lives in Amstelveen. With the orchestra, she performs Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 2.

The concert ends on a festive note with Dvořák's Eighth Symphony, full of Bohemian colour.
