Cinderella by choreographer Frederick Ashton, founder of The Royal Ballet, celebrates its 75th anniversary this season. The premiere of the ballet in 1948, starring Moira Shearer and Michael Somes, was received with great enthusiasm. After being absent from the stage at The Royal Opera House for over a decade, Ashton's timeless adaptation of Charles Perrault's famous story about the poor girl who gets rich and happy is finally back. The choreographer's highly developed sense of musicality and the beauty of Prokofiev's superior score elevate the quality to unprecedented heights. A creative team, steeped in the magic of theatre, film, dance and opera, adds an extra dimension to the ethereal world of Cinderella, full of good fairy fairies, pumpkin carriages, enchanted princes, and true love.
